My photography career started twenty-some years ago when I began gathering images for an outdoor guide book I published; it's been my full-time occupation ever since. From the beginning I was hooked and it's given me great satisfaction to capture an image that evokes a sense of awe and wonder for my viewers and clientele. I am a "I know it when I see it" photographer, that is, I generally do not plan anything in advance and somehow "know" when I look through the viewfinder whether a scene has that extra-ordinary look that makes it photo worthy. I won't even click the shutter unless the tableau sends a thrill of emotion through me - I really can't explain it any better than that.
Many ask me how I come across these scenes where it all comes together. I believe it's a combination of my intuition, an ability to "see" things that otherwise go unnoticed, my willingness to explore and make the effort to seek out little known and (occasionally) precarious places in all types of weather and conditions and an acute understanding of "the light".
Over the years I have been lucky enough to have won many awards at some of the top art shows in the country. When I do, I am always humbled by the fact that the judges chose me over the many other fine photographers out there – it's a great honor to be recognized for your work.
At this point I mainly show my work at high end art shows and have it hanging in a couple select galleries. I've created an online presence and interactive website where much of my work can be viewed and purchased. In turn, I'm free for more travel and exploration devoted exclusively to capturing evocative images to share with you.
Thank you for your interest in my work!
